The difference between Guidance and Information in comparison to Advice.

The Financial Advice Working Group (FAWG) published a comparison of financial guidance versus advice in their March 2017 report:

Definition of Guidance:

  • Guidance is an impartial service which will help you identify your options and narrow down your choices but will not tell you what to do or which product to buy; the decision is yours.

  • Providers of guidance are responsible for the accuracy and quality of the information they provide, but not for any decision you make based on it.

  • Guidance is free unless your provider clearly tells you otherwise.

  • It will suggest what you could do.

Definition of Advice:

  • Advice will recommend a specific product or course of action for you to take, given your circumstances and financial goals. This will be personal to you, based on the information that you provide them with.

  • Advice will be provided by a qualified and regulated individual or online by a regulated organisation.

  • Providers of advice are responsible and liable for the accuracy, quality and suitability of the recommendation that they make and you are protected by law.

  • You will usually pay a fee for advice. Fees will be disclosed before you are asked to commit yourself.

  • It will recommend what you should do.

How Rob your financial friend will work with you.

01. The first step of working with us is to take up our Money Awareness Course.

You will want to think about what your money needs to do for you. Is it for short term, medium term or longer term investment. Next, consider with Rob the economic and political background of your investment. Rob provides 5 strategies for you to consider encouraging you to develop your own plan for the future.

The course gives you understanding, insights from Rob’s years of experience and sound knowledge. This provides the confidence, working with Rob, to move forward with investment should you choose to do so. Should students retain our services, we continue to educate and inform them as the following steps are taken:

  • The investment platform is how you learn to buy and sell investments and where you can research, with Rob, the investments you may choose to take up.

  • You can choose to invest in assets such as property, funds investing in shares of companies, government bonds and a wide choice of stock market sectors.

  • You can choose to invest in funds that place your money in the types of assets you have chosen. You may choose to use a mixed asset or managed fund or make your own choices.

  • At each step the students advise the trainer of the choice they are making. The trainer then asks the reason for the choice being made. This makes sure your decision is based on accurate understanding and market awareness. Market awareness guides you in understanding the potential profitability and risk/reward around your decision.

  • Over the years, our students have provided testimonies of the powerful benefits obtained from learning how to invest for themselves, and being able to make their own investment decisions based on sound knowledge and understanding.

Some students have used the knowledge gained to work more closely with their existing adviser being able to check the value of the advice given and knowing the right questions to ask, to seek to protect and grow their funds with the adviser.

Many of our past students are willing to talk with you about their experiences – just ask.

When you retain our guidance and information, as a part of our ongoing commitment, you will receive financial commentaries from Rob. These are similar to commentaries you might read in the financial press. However, you will personally know the author and have the right to arrange Zoom or phone calls for further understanding and guidance arising from what you read.
